Fabric Label Glossary

Center Fold or Loop Label
Center fold or loop labels are the most common type of label. Loop labels are usually woven or printed on both sides - most often with the logo on one side and care and content on the other. Consider adding 4mm on each end for sew space.

Die/Laser Cut
These labels are cut into a shape that reflects the design of your logo and cab be printed or woven. The often have an adhesive backing or have 2 to 3mm of sew space added to the design.
Endfold
A very useful type of label, the endfold label is commonly used in shirt collars. Three to four millimeters are added to each end of the label and folded under for sewing purposes.

Fuse Cut (Heat Seal)
Fuse cut labels are cut with a hot knife so the edges are sealed and are easily the most versatile type of label available. They are perfect for tacking on the corners or sewing along the edges - all four or just one. Fuse cuts very often have an adhesive back and can be pressed on ironed on. Consider allowing 3mm around your design for sew space.
Miter Fold
Often used in the collars of men's shirts, the mitre fold is sometimes referred to as the hook label since men often use the label to hang their shirts on hooks.

Ultrasonic Edge
Results are the same as the fuse cut (above) but the edges are softer. They can be used with adhesive back, tacked, or sewn. Often used in swim wear, sleepwear, or on other soft clothing.
Damask
Damask is a high definition weave using at least two threads. This weaving method will provide a good solid color and fine detailing. This technique is very popular for main labels used to enhance a brand image. Made with higher density, it provides finer details and outstanding colors. Damask weaves are more expensive than Taffeta. These labels are considered the high end among woven labels. High quality is achieved by high intensity, and thinner yarns. Clarity of detail and true logo interpretation is exceptional. Choose damask for detailed designs or texts. While the cost is higher, so is the quality of the label for a fancy, appealing appearance.
Double (upground) Taffeta
The weft color is woven into the warp yarn twice therefore covering any "dots" and resulting in a better looking label. The double weave will normally only apply to specific sections of the label, not to the entire label.
Satin
Satin labels look very luxurious and are extremely soft - at the same time, they give shiny and fancy look. Because of its softness, it greatly reduces the chance of skin irritation. Satin labels have more sheen and are usually limited to basic ground colors. The material is sometimes referred to as slit satin referring to the slit knives that cut the labels to size. The labels can also be cut with hot knives. Satin provides a luxurious and shiny look with a soft feel. These labels are usually more expensive than Taffeta.
Taffeta
Taffeta labels are the most cost effective, and the most popular among woven labels. It allows for simple weaving, strong and practical label. Taffeta is ideal for all types of labels, including Company Logo Labels and Care/Content Labels. They are recommended where price is an issue and image is not a factor yet suitable for use in most circumstances.
Tubular Satin
Tubular construction (hollow in the centre) with a possibility of design on either side of the label. This is woven on a satin warp and most commonly used for zipper pulls.
Twill Taffeta
Twill labels are similar to taffeta labels. Twill labels are more used to show more color tones, where it's difficult to achieve on other types of labels.
Woven Edge Satin
The edges are woven instead of cut resulting in a softer label. Appearance can look more ‘high-end’.
